Busy Tweede Nuwejaar for rescue crew

02 January 2023: It’s been a super busy day with rescues for the Western Cape Department of Health EMS/AMS rescue helicopter on the 2nd day 2023. For the first rescue the helicopter was dispatched to Platteklip Gorge to airlift a hiker who collapsed while hiking. The patient was airlifted & handed over to the local METRO ambulance crew for further treatment. While busy with this rescue the helicopter was dispatched to Karbonkelberg, Hout Bay to airlift a dehydrated patient. The patient was handed over to the ground crew for further treatment. Shortly after returning to base, the rescue helicopter was again dispatched for a mountain at Diagonal hiking trail, Camps Bay. Four patients found themselves stuck on a ledge & needed to be extracted & airlifted from the mountain. The patients was handed over to the ground crew for further treatment. After completion of this rescue the helicopter was dispatched to Seaforth Beach, Simon’s Town. A 2 year old patient was airlifted from the beach to Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. Our thoughts & well wishes are with the patients for a speedy recovery. We urge everyone to be safe while enjoying the beautiful Cape Town weather.
