Monde Mgibantaka serves the Air Mercy Service as a Hangar Assistant and driver. Based at our East London base, he drives to our Mthatha and Gqeberha bases and, with more than two years of service, has kept our hangars and aircraft spotless.
Asked what brings him the most pride, Monde recalls a drive near Idutywa, when an elderly man pointed at the AMS bakkie, then to the sky, and then to himself, showing that he had once been rescued by an AMS aircraft. “Seeing that impact gave me immense pride in the work we do,” says Monde.
His message to others: “In life, some things seem impossible until they are done.”
