Helicopter rescue training in Eden District

The Western Cape Government (WCG) Department of Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS), in partnership with The SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service (AMS) provides an emergency rescue and air ambulance service to the community of the Western Cape via a fleet of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

The AMS provides air-sea and air-mountain rescue services by helicopter with more than a decade of rescue experience working with the Western Cape Department of Health EMS, Wilderness Search & Rescue (WSAR) and its many affiliates including Life-Saving South Africa (LSA) and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).

Here’s some images of training that was conducted at Witfontein in George. Training in the aero-medical environment is crucial to ensure a high-level of safety and proficiency in accessing patients in remote and technically difficult/otherwise inaccessible terrain. Thank you Deidre Cloete for capturing such beautiful photographs.
