13 February 2025 – In a partnership focused on improving access to healthcare for underserved communities, Metropolitan Health, a subsidiary of Momentum Health, has funded the SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service (AMS) to deliver essential eye care services through the AMS’ Rural Health Outreach Programme. This partnership has provided life-changing services to remote communities in KwaZulu-Natal.
With the support from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health and the African Eye Institute (AEI), AMS and Metropolitan Health were able to assist 371 individuals over two months at Charles Johnson Memorial Hospital, EG Usher Memorial Hospital, and Dundee Hospital in rural KwaZulu-Natal. Of these, 327 received prescriptions for spectacles, and 62 were referred for further specialist care. This initiative underscores the importance of strategic partnerships in ensuring that vital healthcare services reach those who need them most.
